3rd Round: 12 teams win group brackets, advance to Sweet 16

Joining them: 2015 Houston Rockets 2017 Golden State Warriors 2013 Miami Heat 2007 San Antonio Spurs

2nd Round: only the 10% survive

28/248 teams remaining Stephen Curry leads the way for the '17 Warriors in first 4 games against the 1925 Celtics, driving the series to a 3-1 advantage.  The Madness has reached its climax. After 82 regular season games, and a single elimination first round, the 2nd Round announced a thrilling avalanche of match ups. The legacies of many legends seemed endangered, as their teams were upset in the 1st Round (only 2 Michael Jordans survived 1st round, out of the 8 that got there). The last representative of the 60s, the 67' Philadelphia Warriors (lead by a guy named Wilt Chamberlain) lost to the '09 Rockets, who are so far the biggest surprise in the championship (Yao Ming is now close to claiming a spot among the best 16 teams of all time).  We will miss a lot of people, that's for sure. We'll miss Russell Westbrook, whose Thunder were eliminated by the Big Three Miami Heat. We won't have Dwight Howard or Allen Iverson... and Shaquille O'Neal hasn't ma...

The League (IV): power ranks, and key match-ups for the 1st Round

The League is over. The best 104 teams survive from the initial 248: 96 are now heading to 1st Round and other 8 teams keep advancing in the ABA-NBA Wild Card after 3 rounds. Now, it comes the time to really show what the players are capable of. Accordingly to their seed in The League (remember, each groups qualifies its teams from 1st to 8th as in regular NBA), the 1st Round will consist of only 1 game. The winner advances to the 2nd Round, the loser cross the space-time divide -with whichever way the NBA has apparently found- and goes home. The road has been everything but easy. Some of the best players have fallen and we won't be enjoyning them in the competition (we won't see Dominique Wilkins and Oscar Robertson), whereas some teams have achieved what one could thought at first as inconceivable. Let's have a look at the Power Ranks of the first stage of the championship to find out: The Best: 1. 2001 Milwaukee Bucks Milwauke Bucks has a representative in the next pha...

Wild Card Tournament: ABA & NBA reach agreement, championship takes final format

The championship has gone massive. 64 teams have been added to the competition as the NBA reached an agreement with the ABA board of executives. The agreement supposes the inclusion of A  BA legendary teams, such as the New York Nets led by Julius Erving, and of basketball legends as Rick Barry. In total, the ABA is now represented by 24 teams, whereas the other 40 have been added from the NBA. Now, the tournament has expanded so that it reaches more mdern teams: the 73-9 Warriors, the 2015 Cavs, the 2017 Warriors, or the 2019 Bucks are some of them. Moreover, there is a sensational team that has been added: the New York Celtics, also known as The Original Celtics -  a team that dates back to the 1920s. As the season had already reached the All Star, this 60+ teams won't follow the same path as the previous 180, officials say. Instread, they've announced an alternative way that they'll have to complete until they merge with the original teams in the Re-Seeding round: that w...

The League (III): Dr. J ruins Michael Jordan's sweetest goodbye

Julius Erving shoots over a 39 year old Michael Jordan in Philly's win against Washington 1998 was his last dance, or so they say. Maybe he was still hungry, maybe he still conserved all of his magic. Maybe it was just a matter of competitiveness, and he wanted to show the world that he wasn't finished yet. The story is appealing, isn't it? We got used to the idea that Jordan drove the Bulls to the top. But the Washington Wizards? A team with no stars (highest overall player is a 84-rated Michael Jordan, with Jerry Stackhouse as the back up star), an underdog... that almost blew everyone's mind up. The Wizards, at the 30 game mark, were at the top of their group. They dominated Kobe & Shaq, Kevin Garnett's Timberwolves, Billups' Pistons... It was completely sick. But as for every sickness, then it came the Doctor. The loss to 77' Philadelphia brought the Wizards back to a harsh reality, where a may-be-too-old best basketball player isn't enough to ...

The League (II): The 70s take over

74-75 Buffalo Braves battle 04-05 Phoenix Suns. McAdoo, main star of the Braves, performs a layup. It's Christmas time in the All-NBA championship! And in this second period of The League, it is time we know groups III and IV. After these 15 games, things are getting clearer. A good initial run has proved insufficient for some teams to keep it up at a high level, while other all star teams try to catch up. Before getting into today's two groups, let's see how our favorite teams are doing: 85-86 Celtics: Larry's Celtics have done a little better this games, having a 14-11 record in Group VII and reaching the 5th position, one game behind the 4th. 99-00 Raptors: their start was good. Maybe it was too good. T-Mac and Vinsanity are holding to the 7th position as they lose 2 in comparison to November. 89-90 Pistons: the Bad Boys are suffering the competitiveness in Group IX. However, Joe Dumars is performing terrific games and managing to keep them in the 5th place, 3 games ...
